Harden traded to the Nets

Harden traded to the Nets

James Harden heads to Brooklyn, where he will join longtime partner Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Thus, the Nets will have three of the best scorers in the NBA.

The Nets acquired three-time scoring champion Harden from the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, a person familiar with the situation reported. The star had sought to leave the team for weeks.

Harden is leaving for the Nets as the centerpiece of a negotiation between four teams, including Indiana and Cleveland, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of not being identified because NBA endorsement has not yet been received. .

The league must approve all of these agreements.

Once the trade is complete, the Nets will have three players in their lineup capable of scoring 25 points or more on any given night. Such attacking power would rival any of the best pitchforks seen in years.

The Nets will thus seek the title with three of the highest paid players in the league. All three have a contract until 2022-23.

Harden and Durant would earn more than $ 40 million in each of the next two seasons.

At least four draft picks and shift trades are part of the negotiation, the person said. Other key players changing teams include: Victor Oladipo moves from Indiana to Houston, and Caris Levert from Brooklyn to Indiana.

The deal was reached less than 24 hours after Harden appeared to deliver a farewell message after the Rockets’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.

Harden finally publicly acknowledged his differences with the Rockets.

“We are not a good team,” he said. “I love this city. I’ve literally done my best. This situation is crazy. It’s something that I don’t think can be fixed ”.

The Rockets are 3-6 so far this season and only Minnesota has a worse record in the Western Conference. Chaos prevails in the team and newcomer John Wall had called the situation “complicated.”

Harden was the league’s leading scorer the past three seasons, in each instance by a wide margin. His average of 24.8 points this season ranks him 18th in the NBA – among the leaders but far from his usual production.

He averages 25 points per game in each of his eight full seasons with the Rockets, but with him the team hasn’t made it past the conference finals. The team has not won a title since winning two in a row in 1994 and 1995.

Harden was late for training camp. He was fined $ 50,000 at the start of the campaign for conduct detrimental to the league by failing to abide by sanitary protocols for the coronavirus pandemic established by the NBA and the players’ union.

The Rockets begin a three-game road series this Thursday with the first of two consecutive games against San Antonio. AP (HN)
