Lionel Messi excitedly celebrated the 3-0 win against Bolivia with three of his goals to surpass Pele’s record as the top scorer for a South American team, with 79 goals.
“I waited a long time for this,” Messi said through tears at the end of the match that marked the reunion with his audience after having won the Copa América against Brazil last July at the Maracana.
“Now to enjoy, it is a unique moment after waiting so long, I am very happy,” he said to conclude the brief interview after the South American qualifying match.
