The island of Ibiza will host, from September 5 to 7, the first round of the World Championship of the UIM Class-1 World Powerboat and UIM-ABP Aquabike Class Pro World Championship in which the best boats in the world will take part. motorboat.

The Class-1, also known as the «formula one of the sea», is the ‘queen’ competition of motor boating, as is the Aquabike event, where speed over jet skies (jet skis) and the stunts of freestylers (freestyle riders) make the competition one of the most spectacular.
It will be the first time that a test of this level and with this format, the world circuit of Class-1, the premier category of outboard motorboats known as the ‘Formula One of the sea’, will be held in Spain.
The event will be held every year until 2018 within the framework of the referred Ibiza International Sport Week UIM CLASS-1 World Powerboat Championship and UIM-ABP Aquabike Class Pro World Championship.
The sports competition will be joined by an extraordinary agenda of social and leisure events that will make Ibiza a festival of water sports and social glamor, from the end of August until the end of the championship.

Class 1s are the maximum exponent of speed over water. Vessels weighing just five tons, between 12 and 13 meters in length and capable of reaching speeds of over 250 kilometers per hour in the water.
Organized by IWC, the Ibiza Mediterránean Gran Prix 2014 brings together the support of public and private institutions and sponsors. IWC has the support of the UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) and H20Racing as promoters of the world championship, in addition to the Spanish Federation of Motonautics.
At the local level, the event has the collaboration of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa and the municipalities of Ibiza, Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària, as well as the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands and the Maritime Captaincy of Ibiza and Formentera.
It is an unprecedented event in the Balearic Islands. Various companies, sponsors and public institutions of Ibiza have agreed for the occasion, to host a unique event in Spain.
The UIM Class 1 World powerboat is the official name of the high-speed tests at sea that bring together Europeans, Asians and teams from the Middle East to design and build 5-ton monohulls, capable of reaching speeds of 135 knots, plus 250 km / h. thanks to its two 850 hp engines.
Each boat has a pilot and co-pilot. The first navigates and directs the boat, the co-pilot is in charge of technical control, instrumentation, speed and the development of the ship in the race. These are duets that have to be in perfect harmony, confidence and coordination second by second.
Competing teams represent Abu Dhabi, Austria, Australia, Norway and Italy. The presence of the Abu Dhabi team ‘Victory 3’ stands out with Arif Saif Al Zaffain and Mohammed Al Marri, current world champions, a title that they also won in 2012. In 2011, 2010 and 2009 the title was also the Abu Dhabi team with Arif Saif Al Zaffain and Nadir Bin Hendi.
The Norwegian Zabo Racing will also compete with the Turkish Ugur Isik and the Norwegian Christian Zaborowski, world runners-up in 2013 or the Italian Fendi Racing, with Luca Formilli and Giovanni Carpitella, third last year. The Abu Dhabi Team will also compete with Rashed Al Tayer and Majed Al Mansoori, world runners-up in 2012.
