Inter defeats the Sheriff and gets into the fight

Inter Milan, with goals from Bosnian Edin Dzeko, Chilean Arturo Vidal and Dutchman Stefan De Vrij, defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 3-1, who came to San Siro after beating Real Madrid and Shakhtar, and went back into the fight for the round pass in group D of the Champions League.

Simone Inzaghi’s team, which barely added a point after the first two days, without being able to score a goal, placed third, with four points, to two of the two leaders, Real Madrid and the Sheriff himself, with Shakhtar Donetsk which closes the classification with a point.

The “Nerazzurri” team, tonight with black elastic, met again with a victory at home in the Champions League after a two-year wait, as the last victory dated back to 2019, against Dortmund with Antonio Conte on the bench.

Before 45,000 spectators at San Siro, it was Dzeko who collapsed the visiting wall in the 34th minute, signing a high-class goal, with a left-handed volley, after a corner kick hung by Federico Dimarco and previously headed by Arturo. Vidal, for the first time this season. His target broke the equality, after the visiting goal made three worthwhile interventions.

Dumitru Celeadnic, substitute for Greek Georgios Athanasiadis, the great hero of the Bernabéu triumph, twice anticipated with good starts to Dutch Denzel Dumfries and Dzeko, and achieved another excellent save before a shot from Dimarco. But he could do nothing against the volley of Dzeko, who celebrated his first European goal with Inter.

The Sheriff, who had started aggressively, before succumbing to Inter’s technical superiority, continued with the style that gave him so many dividends in this Champions League and for a moment came to savor a new feat.

It was in the 52nd minute, when Sebastien Thill from Luxembourg surprised Slovenian goalkeeper Samir Handanovic with a good free kick. He celebrated his second goal in this Champions League, all in legendary stadiums. In fact, before this goal at San Siro, he had scored at the Bernabéu against Real Madrid.

But the visitors’ illusion lasted just five minutes, as Inter once again locked up their rival in their half of the field and punished him with two goals in the space of thirteen minutes, the work of Vidal and De Vrij.

The Chilean scored 2-1 in 57 with a powerful left foot after receiving an elegant assist from Dzeko and once again celebrated a goal in the Champions League after more than four years of waiting. The last one dated back to April 2017, when he played for Bayern Munich.

His target, the second this season, left the Sheriff touched, who conceded at 67 on De Vrij’s 3-1, past Dumfries.

Inter had no problems, in which Chilean Alexis Sánchez also had minutes to manage his comfortable margin and the advantage could be even more bulky, if Perisic did not crash two powerful shots to the wood.
