Young New York Yankees outfielder rookie Aaron Judge hit his 29th home run so far this season today and tied the record set by legendary Joe DiMaggio with the Bronx Bombers.
Judge hit the historic two-run homer by sending the ball over the Yankee Stadium bullpen between right and center field in the fourth inning of the home team’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees reveal deciphered the pitch from Mexican starter Marco Estrada.
Judge’s 29 home runs also leave him as the leader of the Major Leagues in that facet of the game and he will be one of the stellar participants next Monday in the Home Run Festival to be held at Marlins Park in Miami corresponding to the celebration of the 88th edition of the All-Star Game.
DiMaggio set the Yankees’ rookie home run mark in 1936, and Judge tied him for the 83rd game of the season, meaning he can even double it with the entire half of the competition ahead.
The only rookie to hit 29 home runs before the All-Star break was Mark McGwire (33) in 1987 with the Oakland Athletics and Cuban José Abreu (29) in 2014 with the Chicago White Sox.
Last day, Judge also hit another special home run after the ball dented a metal beam behind the wall, hitting the 28th.
The hit between left and center field would have landed the ball 456 feet from home plate, had it not hit an obstacle, according to the Statcast system for the majors.
The ball soared just 59 feet (18 meters) and was the fourth-strongest home run of the season, as the ball was thrown at 118.4 miles (190 kilometers) per hour.
Those four hits were from Judge, including the one in first place, with a speed of 121.1 miles per hour (194.8 kilometers per hour).
