Golden State Warriors star forward Kevin Durant will miss at least the first game of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors, team coach Steve Kerr confirmed Monday.
«KD will not play the first game (Thursday). We’ll see what happens next. The fact that there are several days between games is going to help us. We’ll see, “said Kerr, who was pessimistic about his possible participation also in the second game of the series for the title.
“We have not yet decided whether or not he will accompany us to Toronto for the first two games,” he added.
The forward was injured on May 8 during the fifth meeting of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets and missed the final in his zone against the Portland Trail Blazers, which the Warriors won 4-0.
At first it was feared that Durant, MVP of the last two finals, had suffered a serious injury to the Achilles tendon but this was ruled out after the game.
Kerr does hope to get center DeMarcus Cousins back for the final after he was injured in mid-April.
