LaLiga assures its clubs that Barça complies with Economic Control regulations

LaLiga has sent a communication to its clubs about the economic situation of Barcelona, in which it ensures that the club has been subjected under equal conditions to compliance with the Economic Control regulations generally required of all.

The document to which EFE has had access clarifies that the club complies with the Economic Control Regulation and offers objective data such as that there are no overdue debts with employees, clubs and public administrations, nor complaints of non-payment to players.

Also, that the cost of the sports staff has always been within the limit until the 2019-2020 season, except for an excess of 3.6% registered in the 2018-2019 campaign, which was sanctioned despite the fact that the accounting result continued to be positive.

According to LaLiga data, the Barça team has accumulated a generation of profits after taxes of 120 million euros between the 2013-2014 season, in which economic control came into force, until 2018-2019, although in the first campaign affected by the covid-19 pandemic, the 2019-2020, this trend reverts abruptly.

Also last season the indicator of its net debt (compares net debt against relevant income, including profit from player transfers) suffered a marked deterioration, after reflecting a much more favorable position than the average of LaLiga clubs.

The two campaigns affected by the health crisis (2019-2020 and 2020/2021) have led to a sharp decrease in turnover compared to 2018/2019 (-128M € in 2019-2020 and -261M € in 2020-2021) and transfer profits (-10M € in 2019-2020 and -88M € in 2020-2021, compared to the average of the previous 5 seasons; decrease that reaches -39M € and -123M € when compared to the average of the previous 3 seasons).

LaLiga maintains that in addition to this direct impact of the severe reduction in income, in 2020-2021 the result has been significantly affected (-283M €, almost 60% of the total losses of -481M €) due to the deterioration of market value of the workforce, as well as atypical provisions.

The joint effect of the impact of covid-19 on operating operations, the loss of profit from the transfer of players and the accounting record of impairment and provisions in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons, is around 500 million €. EFE (HN)
