Former Chelsea midfielder, captain and most recently manager Frank Lampard has been elected to the Premier League Hall of Fame, the latter announced.
Three-time champion of England with the Blues, Lampard is the most prolific midfielder in Premier League history with 177 goals for West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Lampard is the fifth designated player among the eight footballers to make the newly created Hall of Fame first.
Before him, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer and Frenchman Thierry Henry, who had triumphed at Arsenal, had been chosen by a jury.
A list of 23 players was later submitted to the vote of Internet users, who were to retain six.
On Tuesday, former Manchester United striker Eric Cantona and fellow midfielder Roy Keane had been chosen.
Three more names will be announced in the coming days, the Premier League says. AFP (HN)
