León and Guadalajara advanced to the semifinals of the Guard1anes-2020 tournament (ex Apertura-2020) of Mexican soccer, on Saturday by eliminating Puebla and América, respectively, in the second leg of the quarterfinals.
At the Nou Camp stadium, León beat Puebla 2-0.
At minute 5, Fernando Navarro hit a header that made it 1-0 for Léon after a deflection by Uruguayan defender Maximiliano Perg.
The Ecuadorian Ángel Mena made it 2-0 for ‘La Fiera’ by finishing off a ball that had been rejected by the Uruguayan goalkeeper Nicolás Vikonis at 29.
With this victory, León overcame a 2-1 loss in the first leg and won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.
In the Azteca stadium, the ‘Chivas’ of Guadalajara beat the ‘Eagles’ of America 2-1.
Cristian Calderón scored the 1-0 for the ‘Chivas’ at minute 31 with a shot from outside the area that he placed in the upper left corner.
The 2-0 was also the work of ‘Chicote’ Calderón, also with a shot from outside the area at 72; the ball hit the crossbar and then bounced into the American goal.
The ‘Eagles’ approached 2-1 at 75 after a counterattack that Henry Martín defined with a shot from outside the area.
In this way, Guadalajara won the tie with a global score of 3-1.
The other two quarterfinal series will be completed on Sunday. At the Universitario stadium, the Pumas will present themselves with a 1-0 advantage over Pachuca, who need a victory by any score from 2-0 or 2-1 to advance to the semifinals.
At the Azteca stadium, Cruz Azul will come out with a 3-1 lead over Tigres, who are bound to win 3-0 or by difference of two goals from 4-2. AFP (HN)
