Former Venezuelan major leaguer Luis Sojo affirmed that in Colombia there are many possibilities for baseball development from the lower categories and stressed that pitchers Julio Teherán, of the Braves, and José Quintana, of the White Sox, are already “at the top” of this sport.
The four-time winner of the World Series with the New York Yankees said that “Colombia has good material in this sport and two great exponents like Julio Teherán and José Quintana are already at the top.”
Sojo presented the Governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano De la Rosa, with a project to create baseball training centers that would be located in Cartagena, Montería, Barranquilla, Luruaco and Tolú, all in the Colombian Caribbean.
«We are facing a very good situation where baseball has to say present. I am motivated to rescue and that baseball is raised for the benefit of many people and the satisfaction of new prospects, “said the Venezuelan.
In addition to providing them with adequate training, the center promoted by Sojo offers young people the opportunity to take them to the minor leagues in the United States.
«One of the reasons for the visit was a strategic point. We spoke with a businessman in Cartagena and he liked the project. It will not be just about Barranquilla or Cartagena. I dream that the Academy is in the whole country”, he noted.
Sojo is currently the Yankees’ minor league coach.
