Amelie Mauresmo, former world number one, resigned as the next captain of the French men’s team in the tournament that follows the Davis Cup – to which she had been named in June – to coach French tennis player Lucas Pouille.
As reported by the French Federation of Tennis (FFT), the national technical director, Pierre Cherret, will be in charge of finding a replacement for Mauresmo, who was to replace Yannick Noah, the outgoing captain.
«The French Federation of Tennis supports and encourages this project (train Pouille) that serves the interests of the tennis French, “the agency said in a statement.
Pouille, 24 years old and 32nd in the world rankings, was pleased to have Mauresmo, 38, as coach.
“I am sure that we will do great things together. I thank the FFT for the help provided, “he said on his Twitter account.
The former world number one, who led the women’s team between 2012 and late 2016, was to be the first woman to captained a men’s national team.
Mauresmo has experience in directing figures on the men’s circuit, as he did it between June 2014 and May 2016 with British Andy Murray. EFE
