Mercedes extends Bottas contract

The Finn Valtteri Bottas, reached an agreement with Mercedes to extend his contract for another year, until the end of 2018, announced today the German team two days after the start of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Bottas, 28, this season replaced German Nico Rosberg at Mercedes, who retired days after being proclaimed world champion, and in the 13 races he has played so far with the “silver arrows” he has achieved two victories and another seven podiums.

“It is an honor and I am proud to continue working with Mercedes in 2018. However, there is always room for improvement and I have not yet shown my full potential,” the Finn said in the team statement.

Bottas is third in the world rankings with 197 points and still has a mathematical chance of fighting for the title. This seems however a fight of two, between Lewis Hamilton (238) and Sebastian Vettel (235).

Hamilton is Bottas’ teammate and his current contract also ends at the end of 2018. The Briton, triple world champion, recently indicated that his intention is to remain with the German team beyond that date.
