Mexican boxer Jeanette Zacarías, 18, died on Thursday in Montreal, Canada, after spending five days in an induced coma as a result of the blows she received on Saturday in a fight she had against Canadian Marie Pier Houle.
“It is with great sadness and distress that we learn that Jeanette Zacarías has left us,” reported the Yvon Michel Group, a promoter company behind the fight, on social media.
“The entire team of Grupo Yvon Michel is extremely distressed by this painful announcement,” added the statement in which he expressed his condolences to the relatives of the Mexican boxer, especially her husband, also boxer Jovanni Martínez.
In the fourth round of the fight held on Saturday at the Stade IGA in Montreal, the Mexican fighter was knocked out by the Canadian and convulsed in a corner of the ring. She was later taken to a clinic in Montreal where she was sedated.
Originally from Aguascalientes -Central Mexico- Jeanette Zacarías, known as the ‘Chiquitiboom’ began her professional boxing career on January 27, 2018. She had six fights of which she won two and lost four, three of them by knockout. AFP (HN)
