The back scan of Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager “proved to be clean,” manager Dave Roberts said Saturday.
Seager was hurt in Friday night’s 7-2 win with lower back discomfort, he wasn’t in Saturday’s lineup against the Giants. Chris Taylor was listed as shortstop.
“His situation is still day to day, but very encouraged,” Roberts said. “There was a little less discomfort last night, so it was encouraging.”
Seager was injured by pitching for a single in the second inning and stayed in the game for one more inning. Roberts said he does not believe this injury is a recurrence of a back sprain that Seager suffered in a slip in the 2017 National League Division Series, which knocked him out of the National League Championship Series.
I don’t think they are related. It’s certainly a fair question, “said Roberts. “But since then, the back has been in good shape. One of those things that went wrong right now. We did the scans and we felt good about the results. “
Roberts avoided the suggestion that it might be safer for Seager to return as designated hitter rather than shortstop.
“Too soon,” he said. “Less than 24 hours ago, I was talking about how good your body feels and how it allows you to do what you want to do. Taking a dip and coming out a little sore and talking about the designated hitter, I certainly think it’s premature.
Seager, 26, has had a series of persistent injuries, as well as elbow and hip operations in 2018. (GG) (Taken Dodgers.com)
