MLB reduces suspension of Yordano Ventura

Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura began serving his suspension after his ban was reduced from nine to eight games.
Major League Baseball and the Royals announced that Ventura will miss his first game Saturday night, when Kansas City hosts Detroit.
Ventura was originally suspended nine games for his role in a June 7 brawl against Baltimore.
Ventura pitched close to Manny Machado twice before hitting him with a 99 mph fastball. Machado went after Ventura and hit him before they both fell to the ground. Ventura also hit Machado with a pitch last September.
Last year, Ventura incited three incidents during meetings in April. He was suspended seven games for one of them.
In two starts since the altercation in Baltimore, Ventura is 2-0. On Friday he pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings to beat the Tigers.
Ventura may reappear on June 28 against the St. Louis Cardinals, in the event that no Royals game is rained out.
