Estonian Kaia Kanepi finished in the second round of the Open tennis from Australia to the participation of Puerto Rican Mónica Puig, whom she defeated 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and twenty minutes.
Five times the Olympic champion, 58 of the world, gave her service to Estonia, who occupies the 100th position in the WTA classification, and was only able to recover it twice, once in each heat.
In his fifth Australian Grand Slam appearance, Puig equaled the performances of 2014, 2015 and 2017 and lagged behind that of 2016, the year he reached the third round.
Kanepi, 32, will equal at least the third round he signed in 2009. His next opponent will come out of the match between Spain’s Carla Suárez and Hungarian Timea Babos. EFE
