The Spanish duet soon opened a gap in each of the sleeves and traveled with an advantage that their opponents could not balance.

Nadal, who hours before had achieved a pass to the round of 16 of the men’s team after beating Italian Andreas Seppi, kept the guy encouraged by the good level and regularity exercised by his teammate.

The resistance of Marach and Peya waned in the final stretch of the second set, which eased the way for the Spanish.
