Spain’s Rafael Nadal was left out of the top 3 in the ATP rankings, falling off the podium for the first time since May 2017, while Italian Jannik Sinner made a strong return to the top 20 thanks to his victory in the Washington tournament.
Surprisingly eliminated in the round of 16 in the US capital, the Spaniard fell to 4th place, being overtaken by Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. Serbian Novak Djokovic remains the unalterable leader with 12,113 points.
Sinner’s triumph allowed him to move up 9 places to 15th, his best position in the ranking.
At almost 20 years old (he will meet them on August 16), the Italian is the youngest player to win an ATP 500 tournament since the category was created in 2009.
A finalist in Washington, American Mackenzie McDonald made a spectacular rise from 107th place to 64th.
The negative note was put by the Argentine Guido Pella, who dropped 17 positions and left the top hundred, now occupying the 102nd position in the ranking. AFP (HN)
