Nadal starts his preparation for Wimbledon on the grass of the Mallorca Open

The Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal has started on the natural grass courts of the Country Club of Santa Ponsa, home of the Mallorca Open women’s tournament, his preparation to compete at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season.

Days after winning his twelfth Roland Garros title, Nadal exercised under intense heat and for two hours together with his coach Carlos Moyá and physical therapist Rafael Maymó.

The Balearic tennis player, winner of 18 Grand Slams, occupied one of the training courts at the Mallorca Open WTA, as he has been doing for the last three years.

Nadal’s adaptation to the grass was followed by dozens of fans, who did not want to miss the routine of the Mallorcan champion in his set-up to arrive in London in the best possible condition.

Nadal and Moyá rallied at a very high rate during the first hour of training, in an exchange of forehand and backhand blows. The Mallorcan tennis player spent several minutes hitting the net and perfecting his serve, before leaving the Mallorca Open facilities escorted by numerous supporters and members of the tournament’s security team.

Nadal, a two-time Wimbledon winner, was a semi-finalist last year, starring in vibrant matches like the one between Juan Martín del Potro of Argentina in the quarterfinals and Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the penultimate round.

As confirmed by the organizers of the Mallorca Open, the Manacor tennis player, who leads the race to London as the best player of 2019, plans to continue in the coming days with his adaptation to natural grass. EFE
