The Spanish Rafael Nadal will be decorated next Thursday with the “Grand Vermeil” medal, the highest distinction of the city of Paris, by the mayor of the French capital, the French-Spanish Anne Hidalgo.
Nadal, winner of nine editions of Roland Garros in Paris, will receive the prestigious award at a ceremony at City Hall, the municipality said in a statement.
The Spanish tennis player is already in Paris to prepare for the assault on his tenth Musketeers Cup, the final draw of which will begin next Sunday.
Hidalgo has invited a group of students from a tennis school in Paris to the ceremony “so that they have the opportunity to see this man who is a model for generations of players and players,” added the City Council.
Together with Nadal, the mayor will inaugurate an exhibition dedicated to the “Roland Garros of tomorrow”, on the occasion of the expansion works of the stadium that houses the clay court Grand Slam. EFE
