Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka withdrew from the Women’s Tennis Masters due to problems with her right shoulder, leaving for the second time in a row the tournament that brings together the best players in the world in Shenzhen, China.
Winner of two Grand Slam tournaments, Osaka, 22 years old and number 3 in the world, had to face this Tuesday the number 1, Australian Ashleigh Barty.
“I am disappointed to have to retire. It was a great event in Shenzhen, it is the biggest WTA event of the year ”, declared the Japanese, who already had to leave the Masters last year due to a hamstring injury.
“This is not how I wanted to end this tournament or my season. I am looking forward to recovering and I hope to be back here in Shenzhen next year, ”he added.
The Japanese had made her debut at the Masters on Sunday with a victory over the Czech Petra Kvitova (N.6) by 7-6 (7/1), 4-6, 6-4, in a reissue of the final of the Open of Australia.
The Dutch Kiki Bertens, world number 10, will replace Osaka for the remainder of the tournament and will collide with Barty this Tuesday. AFP
