The event was recorded in the dispute of a race in the town of Canandaigua, during lap 14 of the 25 that the pilots had to complete at the small circuit, local police reported in a statement.
The incident was recorded in a video, in which it can be seen how the car of the deceased, Kevin Ward Jr., was stopped on the track after colliding with Stewart’s.
Ward Jr. then exited the vehicle under his own power and apparently tried to confront Stewart, who had continued in the race and was approaching the spot after completing the next lap of the circuit.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Stewart is cooperating with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
The 43-year-old is a regular at the Nascar Cup speed tests, in whose general classification he has prevailed three times.
Stewart was scheduled to compete in another race in New York state today, but his team announced that he will ultimately not do so and will be replaced by a teammate. EFE
