NBA announces 16 positive cases of Covid 19 during last week

News that we could already imagine, but which is still surprising due to the low numbers of previous weeks. As announced by the NBA, of the 497 players tested for COVID-19 since January 6, 16 have returned confirmed positive tests.

In recent days we have been obtaining different confirmations from several of the players that surely appear on this list of 16. Seth Curry of the 76ers, Jayson Tatum and Robert Williams of the Celtics, Maxi Kleber and three other Mavericks, Michael Porter Jr. of the Nuggets, a Heat player (with Avery Bradley out due to protocol), and at least two members of the Wizards (with Rui Hachimura and Moritz Wagner as tracked casualties), are the ones we know.

In total, the League has already reported at least 133 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, and there will almost certainly be many more. Even some players may have already contracted the virus more than once. However, it is worth remembering that 48 players tested positive during the initial round of League testing, which took place prior to the start of the preseason.

NBA protocols clearly work to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but as Adam Silver said, January will be a month that should not surprise us with the increase in cases. This is confirmed in comparison with the null or scarce positives of previous weeks.

This particular situation that will be experienced during the current month, has led the League to tighten the rules to avoid infections, and hope that once February arrives, the calendar can develop as scheduled without so many suspensions. (GG) (NBA Maniacs)
