London, UK | AFP | Nick Blackwell announced Tuesday that he will not resume his boxing career despite the progress made since his emergence from the coma to which he was induced by the blows suffered in a fight on March 27 against Chris Eubank Jr.
Asked on Twitter if he would ever return to the ring, the 25-year-old boxer replied: “No, I’m done with it.” “I can’t revive that to my friends, my family and myself, but I will continue to be linked (to boxing),” he added.
Blackwell was thrown into an artificial coma following his loss to Chris Eubank Jr. (middleweight) in London, the victim of a brain hemorrhage. The combat had been interrupted in the tenth round at the recommendation of the doctor, who found that Blackwell lacked vision in his left eye.
Eubank Jr, the son of former world champion Chris Eubank, wrote to Blackwell and expressed his wish that he not hold a grudge against him.
Blackwell replied: “Hello little brother, no resentment, we both did our job and what happened is a disgrace, I hope you do well champion.”
Chris Eubank confirmed that he instructed his son to stop punishing Nick Blackwell’s head by seeing him stunned. The referee did not stop the fight until the tenth round, on the recommendation of the doctor.
