Mixed martial arts fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, who recently beat Irishman Conor McGregor, launched a challenge to undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Nurmagomedov’s challenge came in a video posted to Instagram by Mayweather’s promoter Leonard Ellerbe, who indicated that he ran into the UFC fighter in a match in Russia.
Come on, Floyd. We have to fight now: 50-0 against 27-0, “Nurmagomedov said alongside a smiling Ellerbe. We’re two guys who never lose. In the jungle there is only one king. Of course, I am the king because (Mayweather) failed to bring down McGregor, but I easily beat him. Let’s go”.
Nurmagomedov did not clarify whether he wanted to fight Mayweather in a boxing or UFC match.
Like McGregor when he fought Mayweather, the Russian has no prior experience as a professional boxer. McGregor made millions of dollars last year by facing the American in a boxing match.
Mayweather appeared to play McGregor in the opening rounds before beating the Irishman in the 10th round to improve his career record to 50-0.
Last weekend, Nurmagomedov retained his UFC lightweight crown, beating McGregor in the fourth round.
He then exited the Octagon to fight a member of McGregor’s entourage who had been taunting him, leading to a pitched battle. McGregor was also beaten by members of Nurmagomedov’s team. AFP
