Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao returned to Manila today after winning the welterweight title in a fight held last Saturday in Las Vegas against Mexican-American Jessie Vargas.
Pacquiao arrived at the Manila airport at dawn and later went to a hotel in the Makati district, where a party had been organized to celebrate the victory of the fighter, considered the best athlete in the history of the Philippines.
The boxer, elected senator in last May’s elections, plans to attend the Upper House session today to resume his work as a legislator.
«Now it’s time to go back to work. I have to go to the office, “Pacquiao told reporters.
The Philippine champion announced in April that he would retire from boxing to pursue his political career, but a few weeks after winning a Senate job, he said he would return to the ring.
