Pacquiao should analyze his retirement, suggests WBC president

The President of the World Council of Boxing (WBC), the Mexican Mauricio Sulaimán, today suggested to the Filipino Manny Pacquiao to analyze his retirement from the boxing and take steps to other activities down the ring.

Pacquiao, 38, was defeated last Sunday by Australian Jeff Horn, who was awarded a unanimous decision in twelve rounds by the judges.

“The boxer and the athlete in general, when the lights go out and you see someone else applaud, it is very difficult to accept to withdraw and that is why (on some occasions) they return,” Sulaiman told reporters this Tuesday in Mexico City .

“Pacquiao has been a star boxer in the last two decades with many great fights and a worldwide crowd; that’s why I feel that the decision to withdraw is complicated, “he added.

Sulaiman assured that the Filipino is at a point in his career that “he can beat anyone, but (also) he can lose to anyone. He is a legendary boxer and can do things very well outside the ring in many areas (such as politics), “he said.

About Sunday’s fight in Brisbane, Australia, before more than 55,000 people, Sulaiman said that “the little that I saw Pacquiao, I saw him with strength but without the speed that was his great characteristic. He has the decision, I do not criticize his performance in any way, the body simply takes its toll on legs, speed and strength, “he said.

Sulaiman recalled that Pacquiao is a WBC icon as he won four agency titles in flyweight, super featherweight and super welterweight.

«He has been a high-level boxer and has a lot to give him boxing down the ring. EFE
