The Egyptian Football Federation appointed the Portuguese national team coach Carlos Queiroz two days after ousting his predecessor.
In its statement, the federation specifies that Queiroz will be seconded by Egyptians Diaa al-Sayed, as deputy, and Essam al-Hadary, new goalkeeping coach.
On Monday, one day after the draw with Gabon (1-1), in the qualifying phase for the World Cup-2022, the federation dismissed Hossam Badri.
The 61-year-old Egyptian coach had succeeded Mexican Javier Aguirre in September 2019, who was dismissed after the Pharaohs were eliminated in the last 16 of the last Africa Cup of Nations.
Queiroz, 68, is scheduled to arrive in Cairo next week.
This is the Portuguese’s first contract since his departure at the end of 2020 from Colombia, where he was coach since February 2019.
Queiroz has been a coach at clubs such as Sporting Portugal (1994-1996), Real Madrid (2003-2004), among others, in addition to being Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United (2002-2003 and 2004-2008).
In national teams he has also directed Portugal (1991-1993 and 2008-2010), South Africa (2000-2002), United Arab Emirates (1998-1999) and Iran (2011-2019), in addition to Colombia. AFP (HN)
