Three-time Puerto Rican world champion Amanda Serrano (26-1-1, 19KO) will seek to snatch the World Boxing Organization (WBO) 126-pound title from Ghanaian Helen Joseph on January 16 at the Barclay Brooklyn Center (New York).
“All this has been a great blessing for my career,” said Serrano, 27, in the statement released today by the combat organization.
She said she hopes women’s boxing will be the main topic of conversation at the end of the fight.
Serrano is coming off defeating 130-pound (59-kilogram) European champion Djemilla Gontaruk by TKO in the third round.
Serrano earned her first title on September 10, 2011, when she defeated Kimberly Connor in the first round to become the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world champion at 130 pounds. EFE
