Spain won its sixth Davis Cup against Canada this Sunday after Rafa Nadal beat Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6 (9/7) in the second individual match to make it 2-0 in the final played in Madrid.
Before, Roberto Bautista had given the first point to the Spaniards, winning the young Felix Augier-Aliassime in the first individual match 7-6 (7/3) and 6-3.
The world number one invested almost two hours to beat Shapovalov, number 15 of the ATP, in an intense match decided in the tie-break of the second round.
Nadal wasted two match balls in sudden death, allowing his rival to return 7-7, before seizing the third to close out the set, the match and the title.
The Spanish tennis player scores his fifth Davis Cup with this victory, after those he won in 2004, 2009 and 2011.
He also has the 2008 one, although he did not play the final in Argentina due to injury. AFP
