Rafael Nadal returned to the top of the ATP rankings on Monday, regaining the place of honor for the first time since November 2018.
With this, the 33-year-old Spaniard became the second oldest tennis player to top the list of the best in the world. Last year, the Swiss Roger Federer was number one in the world at 36 years old.
Nadal has led the rankings for a total of 197 weeks, during eight different periods. Federer is the longest-dominating list of the best in the men’s field, totaling 310 weeks at number one.
The Swiss remained in third place in the ranking, just behind Serbian Novak Djokovic and ahead of Russian Daniil Medvedev.
Nadal is 51-6 this season and has won four titles, including the French Open and the US Open. He also played in the final of the Australian Open.
The Spaniard seeks to close a year at the top of the ranking for the fifth time. AP
