Real Sociedad began their journey in the Europa League with a 2-2 draw at the home of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, this Thursday on the first day of group B.
Germany’s Mario Götze, world champion with his team in 2014, opened the scoring for PSV at the 31st and Real Sociedad then came back with goals from Belgium’s Adnan Januzaj (34) and Sweden’s Alexander Isak (39), before Cody Gakpo (52) put the final goal of the equalizer at the start of the second half.
The Real Sociedad was reunited with this tournament after its elimination last season in the round of 32 by English Manchester United and could not win in its premiere.
PSV is tied at one point in Group B, led by Monaco, who beat Austrian Sturm Graz 1-0.
In this Thursday’s match at Philips Stadion, shortly after Januzaj (25) sent the crossbar for Real Sociedad, it was PSV who opened the scoring, at the 31st, through Götze, who took advantage of a rejected ball by goalkeeper Álex Remiro shot by Briton Noni Madueke.
The Basque team reacted in the best way and came back before the break.
Januzaj drew first (34), with a hit with the interior to the center of Joseba Zaldúa. The second of the blue and white was signed in 39 by the Swede Alexander Isak, also with the assistance of Zaldúa.
In the second half, PSV equalized 2-2 in 54, after a spectacular personal move by Götze, who was the one who enabled Cody Gakpo, the author of the tie.
Jordan Teze hit the post for the Dutch team at 90 + 2 and Mikel Oyarzabal had a great chance for Real right after, but the score did not budge from the tie.
On the second day of the Europa League, Real Sociedad will host Monaco on Thursday 30 September, the day on which PSV will visit Sturm Graz. (AFP)
