‘Rocky’ Martínez, confident in defending his title against Berchelt in Mexico

The Puerto Rican Román ‘Rocky’ Martínez, junior lightweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), trained today at full steam for his defense against the Mexican Miguel ‘el Alacrán’ Berchelt on March 12 in Mérida (Yucatán).
«I am calm, because I have traveled to China, Scotland and many other parts to fight. I have the experience and we are prepared, “Martinez said in a press release.
Martínez (29-2-3, 17 knockouts) worked this Tuesday at the Municipal Gymnasium of Dorado, northern Puerto Rico municipality, under the supervision of his coach, Raúl ‘Papo’ Torres, and also the physical trainer Freddy Trinidad, for his upcoming combat at the Zamna Poliforum in Mérida.
The Puerto Rican fighter said that he has analyzed the boxing style of Berchelt (28-1, 25 knockouts), first classified in the WBO at 130 pounds (67 kilos) and winner of his four bouts last year, and acknowledged that it is « a brave young boxer ».
«I know that Berchelt is a guy who comes to fight, but I know that when I put my hands on him he will fall. He is a good fighter, but they have protected him a lot by always fighting in Mexico, “said Martinez, 33, three-time WBO monarch.
In 2015 Martínez fought twice against the Mexican Orlando ‘Siri’ Salido, beating him in the first by unanimous decision and the tables in the second.
Therefore, it was expected that these two would hold a third lawsuit, something that did not materialize.
“I am always training and when the panorama changed and it was not with Salido and it was going to be with Berchelt, there was no problem, because I have been working for three or four months,” said the Puerto Rican boxer, who may travel to Mexico between 6 and 7 March to complete your preparation.
