Ronald Koeman dismissed as Barcelona coach

Coach Ronald Koeman has been dismissed as Barcelona coach after falling 1-0 against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night in the 11th league match, the Barça club reported.

“The FC Barcelona has dismissed Ronald Koeman tonight as coach of the first team,” said the club in a statement, specifying that President Joan Laporta has communicated this to the coach.

Barça, which points out that Koeman will leave the squad on Thursday, closes its brief statement thanking the coach “for the services provided to the entity and wishes him good luck in his professional career.”

The club does not give further details on who will take over the team pending the decision on the successor of the Dutchman, for whom the name of Xavi Hernández sounds.

The irregular game and the bad guys have led to the coach’s departure, leaving Barça in ninth position in the league standings, six points behind the leader, Real Madrid, and after having achieved 15 points out of 30 possible.

The team has not yet been able to win as a visitor this season, to which is added its delicate position in the Champions League after suffering 3-0 thrashes against Bayern Munich and Benfica, and only having won 1-0 at Dinamo de Kiev. (AFP)
