Russia’s Maria Sharapova leaves Wimbledon first round

Maria Sharapova (80th in the world), who has not won a match at Wimbledon since 2015, dropped out in the first round against Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier when she trailed 5-0 in the third set.

The 32-year-old Russian returned to competition less than a month ago on the grass of Mallorca after a five-month absence due to an operation on her right shoulder. However, the media Russian tennis player showed signs of not being one hundred percent physically.

Against Parmentier, the former world No. 1, who won the Wimbledon trophy in 2004, took the first set 6-4, but lost in the second set in the tie-break 7-6 (4). He then conceded five games in a row before finally throwing in the towel.
