Mick Schumacher, son of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, will contest the 2019 season in Formula 2, the prelude to the premier class, his team, Prema, announced in a statement.
19-year-old Mick won the 2018 Formula 3 European Championship thanks to an outstanding second part of the season, in which he achieved five consecutive victories.
“For me going to Formula 2 with Prema was obvious,” explained the young German driver. It is “a logical step in my sporting career because I want to gain technical experience and improve my driving.”
“This championship is not easy due to its learning curve for beginners but we think that Mick has the maturity and the necessary skills to do it,” said René Rosin, Prema team manager.
The young driver joined Prema in 2016 in Formula 4. AFP
