Schumacher’s son approaches European Formula 3 title

Mick Schumacher, the son of the sevenfold Formula 1 world champion, Michael Schumacher, signed a fifth consecutive victory of Formula 3, which allows him to occupy the first place of this European Championship, one test at the end of the season.

At 19 years old, his two victories obtained at the Spielberg circuit (Austria), after the three signed at the Nürburgring (Germany) a fortnight ago, allow him to take first place in the Championship before the last appointment in Hockenheim (Germany) in the middle October.

On Sunday, after taking pole, he finished the third and final race of the day in second place behind his Russian teammate Robert Schwartzman.

With 8 victories in 27 races already contested this season, Schumacher (Prema Theodore Racing) has 49 points of advantage over the British Dan Ticktum (Red Bull) with 75 points left to distribute.

A final place in the top two would allow him to obtain the “super license”, essential for his debut in F1. The young driver, however, considers continuing a season in F3.

His father, Michael Schumacher, 49, a seven-time F1 world champion, continues his convalescence at his family home in Switzerland after the December 2013 ski accident that caused serious head injuries. AFP
