After Kyle’s 10-year career and six for his brother Corey, the Seagers finally saw each other in a major league game Monday at Dodger Stadium.
Kyle, the Mariners’ 32-year-old third baseman, faced Corey, a 26-year-old shortstop for the Dodgers. Both Kyle and Corey homered in Los Angeles’ win over Seattle, but the duo’s parents, Jeff and Jody, had to watch the game from their home in North Carolina.
“With all this COVID stuff, I’m sure my parents will be home watching from the couch,” Kyle said. “They had planned this day and dreamed of this day for a while. It’s a great moment, but I wish it had been under different circumstances. It’s not the party it would have been. “
That was the sour thing. The sweet thing was that the Seagers became the first siblings on opposing teams to home run in the same game since Puerto Ricans Felipe and César Crespo on June 7, 2001 for the Padres and Gigantes, respectively. The last pair of brothers from the same club to hit home runs in the same game were Justin and BJ Upton on Sept. 27, 2014, as members of the Braves.
According to data provided by the Mariners, Kyle (Gold Glove) and Corey (two Silver Bats) became one of only four pairs of brothers on Monday to face Gold Gloves and Silver Bats under their belt, joining the Puerto Ricans Roberto and Sandy (son) Alomar; Clete and Ken Boyer; and Puerto Ricans Bengie and Yadier Molina.
Additionally, the Seagers are the 15th sibling duo to collide in a major league game after being called up to the All-Star Game. And they are the 12th pair of brothers to face each other, having hit at least 75 home runs each in their lifetime. (GG) (Taken from Al Bat)
