Carli Lloyd is not reconsidering his decision to retire soon, not even after scoring five points in a game.
Lloyd achieved his highest number of goals with the US team, which defeated Paraguay 9-0 in a friendly match on Thursday.
The 39-year-old forward has only three more games left for the national team before retiring. He was asked if he had doubted his decision based on Thursday’s impressive performance.
“Maybe for a fraction of a second,” he replied. “And then I came back to reality.”
Lloyd scored a couple of times in the first five minutes. He scored the third and fourth goals before the break, and the United States built a 6-0 lead in the first half.
Lloyd’s last goal came in the 61st minute.
Lloyd has 113 goals in 313 appearances for the national team. She passed Kristine Lilly as the third best ever.
“He is an absolute legend, simply for being on the court. But it is also a threat, no matter who, when or where we play, “said US coach Vlatko Andonovski. “His mentality is something that has not been seen. She is hungry to score, to improve. And whether we play for a medal or we face Paraguay, there is no difference, they want to score goals ”. (AP)
