Serena Williams down for Montreal with shoulder injury

The American Serena Williams, number one in the world, will not play the tournament in Montreal (Canada) because of an inflammation in the right shoulder, announced the WTA.

The Florida tennis player, a three-time winner of this competition and a semifinalist in the last two editions, will be out in the last tournament before the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“Unfortunately, because of an inflammation in my shoulder, I have to give up playing in Montreal, where I hope to return in future editions,” the American tennis player said in a statement.

“Because this is an Olympic year, the players have a very tight schedule. And sometimes your body needs rest. We hope Serena makes a quick recovery and we wish her every success for the rest of the season, ”said Eugene Lapierre, Tournament Director.

Serena Williams has dosed her presence in the season’s tournaments because of physical setbacks. In the last year he has suffered from problems with an elbow and ailment in the knees.

The American has only participated in the major competitions of the season. The three tournaments played so far of the Grand Slam (Australia, Roland Garros and Wimbledon) and Rome and Miami.
