Serena Williams fined at Wimbledon for damaging a track

American tennis player Serena Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, was fined $ 10,000 this year for damaging one of the All England Club’s courts with her racket, organizers reported.

Williams, 37, was sanctioned for an incident that took place during a training session before the tournament began on July 1.

The sanction “is for unsportsmanlike behavior” and “the reason is damage to a court,” a Wimbledon spokeswoman told AFP.

The 11th seed has two games on Tuesday: the quarterfinals against compatriot Alison Riske and a mixed doubles clash paired with Scotsman Andy Murray. AFP
