Serena Williams says she’s ready to play “real tennis”

American star Serena Williams says she is ready to play “real tennis, which is what I do best” after the hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“I really hope to get back on the court,” the 23-time Grand Slam winner said in conversation with her older sister Venus during a live workout on Instagram on Tuesday.

It’s what I do best. I love to play, “said the youngest of the Williams.

Tennis is on hiatus until at least mid-July due to COVID-19, with Roland Garros postponed until the fall and Wimbledon canceled for the first time since World War II.

Serena said she had viewed the coronavirus forced hiatus as “a necessary evil.”

“I felt that my body needed it, although it did not want it,” stressed the 38-year-old, who last won a Grand Slam title at the 2017 Australian Open.

And now I feel better than ever. I feel more relaxed, fitter. Now I can go out and play real tennis, ”added Serena.

Her older sister Venus, a seven-time Grand Slam winner, started posting workouts to Instagram eight weeks ago and this week she invited Serena to share a yoga-inspired stretching session.

Serena said the exercises, which lasted about half an hour, served as a warm-up, even though they were “a bit intense.”

“Don’t hurt yourself doing this,” he warned, advising, “If you have bad knees, like I do, use a pad.” AFP (HN)
