Serena Williams tests herself in New York ahead of her return to Indian Wells
Serena Williams participated in an exhibition match in New York on Monday, in preparation for her return to the WTA circuit at the Indian Wells tournament.
Williams, who returned to the slopes in February with a match in the Federation Cup, will play her first official tournament in California after giving birth last September and having suffered complications that forced her to stay in bed for weeks.
For the American tennis player, Indian Wells will be the first competition of this type in 14 months, since she won last year with the victory at the Australian Open, a championship that she achieved while pregnant.
This Monday, Williams was measured at New York’s Madison Square Garden against French Marion Bartoli, who is also preparing to return to competition after a long break.
The match, part of the ‘Tie Break Tens’ tournament, was taken by the American, who assured in statements on the track that she was having fun with her return to work.
I’m just having a good time tonight. It’s a great opportunity to play, “said the youngest of the Williams, according to the WTA website today.
The American tennis player will face Kazakhstan Zarina Diyas on Thursday in her first meeting in Indian Wells. EFE
