Seven Yankees test positive for COVID-19

The New York Yankees could be in dire straits as seven members of the tour group tested positive for COVID-19, manager Aaron Boone confirmed. Three of those tests correspond to some of the coaches while the remaining four are from staff personnel.

All seven people who tested positive for the coronavirus had already been vaccinated, and fortunately six are asymptomatic.

Two coaches and a staff member had already tested positive Tuesday before the first game of this series in Tampa Bay.

One of the first to be announced as part of those positive tests was third base coach Phil Nevin, who has already been isolated.

After the game it emerged that first base coach Reggie Willits had also tested positive.

Boone said no player was affected by the positive cases, however, Gleyber Torres was removed from the lineup for Wednesday’s game as the Yankees await additional test results.

The positive results come after the team surpassed 85 percent of its vaccinated members, a figure required by the MLB office to relax sanitary protocols. (GG) (
