Shaquille O’Neal avoids comparisons with LeBron-Davis duo

Shaquille O’Neal avoids comparisons with LeBron-Davis duo

No doubt Kobe Bryant would have been happy for LeBron James and Anthony Davis to win the 17th NBA title for the Los Angeles Lakers; and will match the Celtics’ mark as the league’s two winningest franchises. Shaquille O’Neal spoke to ESPN and made it clear that he believes so.

“After everything we’ve been through, it was a good happy ending for them to win the championship,” O’Neal said. “I’m sure if Kobe were still here, he would definitely be proud and show his love and support on social media.”

O’Neal has also been happy to see the Lakers win a title after Bryant’s death in January. But even though the comparisons come out on their own, he’s not interested in getting into the debate over whether the LeBron-Davis duo is up to the task of that of him and Bryant.

“There will never be another Shaq-Kobe,” said the former Lakers player. “LeBron and Davis will forge their own legacy. They don’t need to reach us. Kobe and I weren’t trying to match Magic and Kareem. Our legacy will never be duplicated or imitated. “

“We don’t want to get into a situation where they can be the next us because there will never be a next us. Magic and Kareem can never be us. We could never be Magic and Kareem. And no other couple can be LeBron and Davis. “

Shaq was also encouraged to weigh in on Davis’s position, and when asked what Davis will now face as a big man defending his first championship, he made it clear that he doesn’t think of the Eyebrow as a center.

“Well, I hate when everyone puts power forwards and big men in the same category,” O’Neal said. “You should talk to Tim Duncan. Because they are two different categories. But I wish him the best. My thing is to be hungry. Why win one when you can win two, three or four? “

It is not the first time that Shaq has spoken about the possibility of dominance of the Lakers in the short term. For now, the Lakers star couple have a contract to share the pitch for the next three years; after having agreed extensions, James until 2023 and Davis until 2025. (GG) (NBA Maniacs)
