Spain beats the United Kingdom and meets Germany in the Davis Cup

The Spanish Davis Cup team defeated the United Kingdom 3-1 today in Marbella thanks to the victory of Albert Ramos in the fourth point and will face Germany in the quarterfinals of the World Group.
Ramos had to work to beat the surprising Cameron Norrie, Roberto Bautista’s executioner on Friday, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2.
The team led since this year by Sergi Bruguera will fight for a place in the semifinals against the German team, which led by Alexander Zverev won 3-1 as a visitor to Australia in Brisbane. The series will be played from April 6 to 8 and Spain will be local.

Norrie, 22 years old and number 114 in the ranking, complicated the actions to the Spanish especially during the first three sets. However, the 21st in the ranking managed to take the important points to celebrate on the clay of Marbella.
The victory also meant a successful debut for Bruguera, who took over the leadership of the men’s team after the departure of Conchita Martínez.
“I can’t ask for more for this weekend,” said the double Roland Garros champion after the match. Bruguera did not want to anticipate who he will summon in the series against Germany, where he could count on the return of Rafael Nadal.
“There are many tournaments still ahead and we have to see who is fitter in three or four weeks,” said Bruguera about the series that will possibly be played in the Balearic Islands or in the Valencian Community.
Spain won five editions of the Davis Cup between 2000 and 2011, but in recent seasons it lost prominence and even fell to the second category of the main tennis team tournament. This year, however, he aims to regain the throne.
Nadal, number one in the world, has already said that the Davis Cup is part of his plans in 2018 and if he evolves favorably from his physical problems, he could return to the team.
