A young Spanish motorcycle promise, Andreas Pérez, died at the age of 14 after suffering a serious accident during a junior World Championship race in Montmeló, near Barcelona, the organizers of the circuit announced.
“After the incident that occurred yesterday (Sunday) during the Moto3 World Championship race (…) at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, we regret to announce the death of Andreas Pérez Manresa,” said a statement from the organization.
«Shocked by the death of the pilot Andreas Pérez. It is difficult to console the loss of someone so young, “the Spanish head of government, Pedro Sánchez, reacted on Twitter.
Pérez fell on a curve and had to be evacuated by helicopter due to the serious brain injuries he presented, said his team Reale Avintia.
The pilot was declared brain dead on the same Sunday and passed away on Monday morning.
It is the third death of a pilot at this circuit in two years, after Enric Sauri in July 2017 and Luis Salom in June 2016.
