Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry released a statement on Monday announcing that he will not be part of the US team in the men’s basketball tournament at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“After reflection and discussion with my family, and in conjunction with the Warriors and as my representatives, I have
decided to withdraw my name from the list of eligible for the United States team for the Games in Brazil. I have communicated this decision to Jerry Colangelo”, president of the American federation (USA Basketball), he said.
“My previous experiences with the national team have been incredibly rewarding, educational and enjoyable, which has made this decision more difficult for me and my family,” adds Curry.
Due to numerous factors, including two recent ankle and knee injuries, I believe this is the best decision for me at this point in my career. It’s an incredible honor to represent your country and wear the letters USA on your chest, but my main basketball goal this summer requires me to focus on my body and be prepared for the 2016-17 NBA season.” EFE
