Tamers of Cuba overwhelm Tigres of Izbekistan 5-0 in second WSB win
The Cuban Tamers overwhelmed the Uzbekistan Tigers 5-0 today, which despite being a strong rival, allowed the island team to score a new victory in their second presentation in the VIII World Series of Boxing (WSB).
The Cuban world champion, the light fly Yosvany Veitía, with eight national crowns under his belt and the second boxer with the most victories in the World Series, faced the young Uzbek Khudoynazar Fayzov, a good fighter but without the precision and superiority of his opponent , unanimous winner on points.
In the second fight of the cartel, of the 60 kilograms, Tamer Lázaro Álvarez and Tigre Shunkor Abdurasulov crossed blows, an aggressive fighter who demanded a good fight from the Cuban who in the end achieved the verdict with a vote in his favor 50 34, 50 43, 50 42, of the three judges.
In the 69 kg division, the Cuban Roniel Iglesias, world and Olympic champion, defeated Makhmud Gaipov, who failed to overcome him in this rematch fight.
Iglesias put on a performance in which he beat Gaipov hard, in which there was no lack of strong exchanges, but he unloaded an arsenal of combinations with precise and powerful blows to demonstrate his advantage over the Uzbek fighter who ended up defeated.
In the 81kg division, 28-year-old islander Julio César la Cruz, world and Olympic champion and captain of the Tamers, gave a lesson in technical mastery against a non-technical Madiyar Saydrakhimov who put up a lackluster fight.
On the contrary, the closest duel of the cartel was staged at more than 91 kg, the Cuban José Ángel Larduet and Bakhodir Jalolov, a powerful boxer with an advantage in stature who won the first round.
This fight was as close as it was difficult and the only one that took place with undeniable parity among the boxers who performed during the five episodes.
Starting in the second round, the super heavyweight Larduet managed to prevail, albeit with effort, over his adversary Jalolov, an experienced fighter who was fifth at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Finally, by divided decision of the three judges, the score was 47 48, 50 45 and 48 47, and favored the representative of the Tamers.
On February 26, the Cubans will visit the Uzbeks to play the third match of the C-1 format – which also includes the Caciques of Venezuela and the Heroicos of Colombia, defeated by the Tamers last week in their first outing in this edition of the contest, in which they were runners-up in 2017. EFE
