The Tampa Bay Rays placed Dominican slugger Nelson Cruz on the COVID-19 injury list Sunday morning, just one hour from hosting the Chicago White Sox for the third of the series at Tropicana Field. Instead, the team called pitcher Chris Mazza from Durham, the team’s Triple-A branch.
The report issued by the team did not clarify at any time if the drop is due to the fact that it tested positive for covid-19 in tests that the team constantly performs or by close contact with an infected person.
This is the third time in August that the Rays have placed a player on the coronavirus-related disabled list.
At the beginning of the month, Cuban Randy Arozarena had to be isolated after his wife tested positive.
Also, pitcher Ryan Yarbrough was out for eight days after getting infected.
Before being traded, the Minnesota Twins pictured Cruz being vaccinated.
The 41-year-old veteran was acquired by the Rays from Minnesota last month just days before the trade deadline.
For the current season in development, he has a .270 batting average with 26 home runs and 68 RBIs, while with the Rays, in 24 games he is averaging .198 with 7 home runs and 18 RBIs. (https://www.septimaentrada.com)
